David Blatherwick and Mario Côté, two painters—one of whom received most of his training in English-speaking Canada and the other in French-speaking Quebec—have been engaging in a dialogue for several years now on topics that fascinate them. At first glance, their different cultural and linguistic backgrounds might seem to set them apart. However, the interactions sparked by visits to exhibitions, readings, and observations on the current state of the world—as well as reflections on studio work—above all highlight their close affinities. This premise led them to collaboratively conceive this exhibition project.
